Coventry Health Care is a health insurance organization headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. They strive on providing the best health care coverage per consumer investment. Coventry serves over five million in every U.S. state. Their products include individual and group health care insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, specialty services, dental and behavioral health programs.
Group health care services include fully-insured and self-funded choices including retiree solutions for those both younger and older than 65 years of age. Also, for students living out of their coverage area, HMO out of area plans is available. Other options include PPO, Coventry Customer Choice and POS. Individual and family insurance options are affordable with a range of deductibles available. There are existing Coventry Health Care health insurance plans for students and recent graduates, singles, families, those that are self-employed, early retirees and those without group coverage. Medicare solutions include Advantra and Advantra Rx Plans, are offered for those that qualify. The Medicaid options comprise Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Old Age Assistance (OAA), State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), Women, Infant and Children (WIC) referrals and much more. Finally, the specialty services are primarily for workers' compensation. These include network solutions, care management, technology services and first script solutions. Full service dental coverage and behavioral health solutions are other options.
Coventry Health Care was founded on November 21, 1986 as Coventry Corporation Incorporated. Over the following three years, Coventry acquired the American Service Life Insurance Company, HealthAmerica Pennsylvania and Group Health Plan out of Saint Louis, Missouri. 1994 and 1995 saw further growth with the acquisition of Southern Health Services and HealthCare USA. 1998 was an enormous year for growth with the merger between Coventry Corporation Incorporated and Principle HealthCare to create Coventry Health Care, Inc. They then began providing Coventry Health Care health insurance. Over the next ten years, Coventry Health Care acquired 19 insurance entities from across the United States resulting in company growth by more than double. In 2009, First Health Services (obtained in 2005) was divested. Coventry Health Care is currently listed on the New York Stock Exchange with ticker symbol 'CHV'.
