Why Health Care Cuts May Impact Your Insurance Rates

2011-10-25

Health insurance in the United States has been changing and will undergo more changes in the next few years. President Obama signed what is being called the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010 and is being implemented in stages to be fully operational by 2015. This has brought on a number of changes to the health care system in the country with some of them being positive and some of them affecting citizens negatively. For the most part, the ACA is in place to ensure that each American has health insurance and has access to quality care as other countries have. However, there are some health care cuts that will soon be underway to try and make overall health insurance more affordable. The health care cuts, for the most part, will likely make health insurance rates more affordable. This is not the case, however, for everyone. It's important to know why health insurance rates will be affected by the new health care cuts.

Health care cuts will come in many different forms and for many different reasons. Cuts will be made in the amount of personnel that hospitals, doctor's offices and the like will have on hand. The reason these cuts are being made is to try and make the entire health care system more efficient. New systems will be put in place to take care of accounts, billing, patient files and more. A lot of this information will be put online in a secure server used by all medical personnel. This way, all doctors and physicians can share patient information without having to make phone calls, fax papers and get authorization in emergency situations. As a result of these new technologies, personnel cuts need to be made and will ultimately save the health care system thousands if not millions of dollars.

Other health care cuts will come in the form of general procedures. The government will try to provide doctors with incentives to provide preventative care to patients as part of their general practice. This means that preventative care will be free for all citizens and will ultimately positively affect insurance rates. Preventative care is one of the main aspects of health insurance that insurance companies have to pay out for. If that section is taken out and provided for free, then insurance companies would have to lower rates for customers. That would result in lower rates for health insurance across the board.

There are many different changes occurring in the health care industry. Many of these changes are coming in the form of cuts which will then affect health insurance rates. For the most part, the cuts will help many Americans save on their insurance rates.
