How Those With Low Income Will Be Assisted By Government Insurance
2011-08-04
The health care industry has gone through some major changes in the last couple of decades, many of them not favorable to the American public. In just the last few years, health insurance coverage has gone down while the cost of coverage has gone up, forcing many people to make do without health insurance. It has become increasingly difficult for the average American to afford and obtain health insurance to keep themselves healthy. This is especially true of low income citizens who struggled to obtain health insurance before the large spike in costs. Although Medicare and Medicaid have been available for low income citizens for some time now, not everyone is eligible to receive benefits. The new government insurance initiatives will once again change the health care industry and allow more people to get the health insurance coverage they need.
Medicare and Medicaid will still be available to Americans in the low income bracket so that they can get the medical help they need. In fact, coverage for both of these programs will be expanded and eligibility rules will change a bit. Although most of the initiatives for the Affordable Care Act won't go into effect until late 2014, some of the changes can be seen over the next few years. One of the changes is the expansion of these government sponsored programs.
The new government insurance initiatives will take other measures to ensure more people are covered. The enacting of Affordable Insurance Exchanges will help low income individuals have more options for health insurance. These exchanges will band some insurance providers and physicians together while offering more options in health insurance coverage. This means that more people will be able to find a plan that is both affordable and provides the necessary coverage.
Probably one of the most beneficial facets of the Affordable Care Act for low income individuals is the incentives the government will give physicians to provide free preventative care. The government is hoping all physicians will take up this cause and provide all Americans with free preventative care. What this means for American citizens, including low income families, is that this will be one less, very important aspect of health insurance that providers will no longer have to cover. As a result, health insurance costs will drop dramatically as preventative care is the focus of most health insurance policies and the one thing that providers know they have to pay out for.
There are plenty of new changes that will occur in the next few years due to the Affordable Care Act. Many more low income individuals and families will not only be able to afford health care, but get great coverage as well.
