Health Insurance Reform and Health Insurance Costs

2010-06-03

America has struggled with providing basic health care needs to its citizens. The past couple decades have been proved utterly harsh to gain affordable health coverage through employment or from an independent health care provider because of health insurance costs. It has taken President Obama two years since his seat into office to finally render the logistics of providing necessary guidelines for a sufficiently acceptable health care reform bill.

On March 22, the final revisions were put into place and passed in the White House concerning the new Health Care Reform. Under this Bill, 32 million middle-class working Americans, are to receive tax-cuts to allow for expansion of affordable health care coverage through employers. These tax-cuts allocate full responsibility and accountability on the part of the government. The entire working class population is expected to be affected by this bill. In addition, retirees will receive more help in the time lapse between when they stop and working and when they become eligible for Medicare. The bill allocates 'x' amount of money for senior citizens to afford prescription drugs. The Health Care Reform has been expected to keep a balance amongst the government's budget and its affect on the current economy.

The money spent on the new Health Care Plan by the government will be both regulated from allocated government funds and out-of-pocket third party resources. Of course, one will still have to account for deductibles, co-payments, and re-reimbursements depending on the type of benefits particular to each employer. An over-whelming of Americans will qualify for employee-sponsored health insurance while the rest will still have to purchase from independent companies with better health insurance rates than currently available. The legitimacy and qualifications as per each case are not necessarily specified.

Since implementation of the bill, there has been much conversation debating the benefits of health insurance costs and premiums. Arguments have been made that health insurance rates will increase instead of decrease over the next 10 years. This concern is directly towards group and non-groups. If you have insurance under a group policy, the premiums will cost less than it will for non-group policies. Insurance provided by employers will still cost less than if purchased from an independent company. The Bill reform calls for independent companies to sign up individuals who are not insured in an affordable manner. Without the reform, it would cost non-group members more to be on a specific plan.

The necessity of the Health Care Reform Bill is much past due. The Obama administration is expected to follow-through over the next decade on specific bullet-points listed in the Bill. Retirees and seniors are to see affects over the couple years. This reform should open new windows for Americans truly in need.
