Health Insurance Coverage And What Americans Can Expect In The Coming Years
2011-02-27
Health insurance coverage is something that all Americans need but that is often costly. Over time, the cost of health insurance has continued to rise and shows no signs of slowing in the coming years. In response to the fact that many citizens can no longer afford health care coverage, a number of health insurance changes have been proposed by the President and the federal government. While these changes are undergoing a great deal of scrutiny and may not actually pass through the house, if they do they will bring a number of sweeping changes to health insurance coverage in the coming years. Here is a brief detailing of what Americans can expect to see if these health insurance changes are in fact written into law.
First and foremost will be the creation of a government-run health care plan that will be available to families of all income types. The intent of this plan is to provide an affordable option for near-universal coverage and limit the number of people who are going without adequate coverage. This government program will not have a great deal of specialized services or options but rather will be intended to fill the basic role of healthcare for citizens. In addition, the ultimate plan for healthcare will be to make not carrying valid health insurance a crime that is punishable with a fine or jail time. While this is an unlikely occurrence, many in the industry are concerned over what this may mean for the future of the marketplace.
In addition, the government intends to impose a method for "checking up" on private health care insurance through a series of evaluations. If a company is found to be in violation of federal standards, they will be prevented from continuing to sell insurance, fined, and possibly put out of business. While this may cause some slowdown in the administration of care, its ultimate intent is to ensure that all businesses operating in the insurance industry are doing so in such a way that they level of care they offer is up to at least a minimum, equivalent standard, and ensure that all citizens are receiving a level of care that is comparable.
While the new health insurance coverage changes that are being proposed by the government are sweeping and have caused no small amount of concern for citizens across the country as well as insurance agencies, the hope of the government is to create a plan that not only sees to the needs of low income Americans but that ensures all Americans receive a reasonable standard of care from their private health insurance providers and do not overpay for service.
