3 Reasons Why Health Insurance Benefits Are So Important
2011-10-11
Health insurance is a very important thing for people to have in the United States. Medical care can be expensive. Any time someone needs to go to a doctor, the bills can add up and end up costing a good deal of money. Even annual checkups can be expensive without health insurance benefits. Health insurance has recently become required in the United States, and as of 2012 everyone will be required to have some form of insurance coverage. There are three big reasons that people should have proper health insurance.
The first big thing that health insurance benefits can take care of for people is being sick. Being sick generally leads to a person heading to a doctor to get checked out. Going to a doctor to get checked out usually involves a few tests like blood tests and imaging studies. Insurance pays for these things rather than leaving a patient to pay for all of the things that they need from a doctor. Prescription medications are another thing that is usually involved with visiting a doctor. Having insurance coverage makes prescription medication much easier because it has the patient only pay a copayment instead of the entire medication. Medicine and doctor visits often end up costing a lot of money, especially if advanced techniques are used in the diagnostic process like an MRI.
A second big reason a person should have health insurance is pregnancy. Insurance companies help out significantly with prenatal and birth care costs. Having a baby is a big deal for most people, and all of the doctor visits can add up with all of the ultrasound and other procedures. The delivery and hospital stays are expensive to handle and insurance companies help women and their families out by covering a big portion of that expense. Insurance companies generally cover the stay in the hospital for the birth and all of the vaccinations the child will need when it gets to be a few months old.
The third big reason why health insurance benefits are so important is emergency coverage. Emergency services can happen to anyone. Some people may not be sick very often, but an emergency like a car accident that requires medical care is a very common occurrence. Emergency services almost always involve expensive tests including MRIs and x-rays. Broken bones and concussions need tending to after incidents like this. Sometimes people who are generally healthy can find themselves in need of an emergency surgery. Surgery is one of the most expensive things a hospital can do for a patient. Without proper insurance coverage, someone could spend a very long time making payments on old medical bills instead of a monthly premium.
